Our services: Getting started with the Library: Your study spaces

Your study spaces

We have a wide range of study spaces available to you, including bookable and non-bookable spaces, different noise zones and various types of study rooms. Take a look through the information below to help with finding a study space that works for you.

Bookable spaces

We offer a range of bookable study spaces in Bill Bryson Library, giving you the option to plan ahead or guarantee a study space for a certain amount of time.

You can book a space depending on the study zone you prefer, either as a desk space or with access to a PC or docking station. Specific bookable spaces are available to Postgraduate Research students.

Non-bookable spaces

Non-bookable spaces are available at all our study space sites - simply find an available seat and stay for as little or as long as you wish!

If you're heading to Bill Bryson Library, you can check how busy it is and how many free study spaces there are before you visit on our live occupancy page. Take a look at our floor maps to see which areas to use if you haven’t booked a space.

Study rooms

You can book an individual or group study room at Bill Bryson Library through our online Space Booking system. Please be aware that our study rooms are not soundproof and should only be used if you have pre-booked the space.

  • Our Individual Study Rooms offer you a semi-private space for study. We have 21 rooms available, located across all floors of the Library
  • Group Study Rooms provide a semi-private space for up to six people for collaborative study. We have eight rooms available, located on Levels 2, 3 and 4 of the Library
  • Disability Support Rooms are available to students and staff who are registered with the Disability Support Service. There are four rooms available, located on Level 1 West Wing in the Library

Study zones

We all have different preferences when it comes to our study environment, so we offer three different types of study zones in Bill Bryson Library - collaborative study, quiet individual study and silent study. We offer bookable and non-bookable options so you can use the area that best suits your needs.

  • If silent study works best for you, you can also use our study spaces at Barker Research Library (please note, no food or drink is allowed in this area)
  • If you're doing work as a group, additional collaborative study spaces are available on Level 2 of the Teaching and Learning Centre
  • Study spaces at all our other sites are for quiet, individual study

In all our study zones, please remember to be considerate of others and maintain the noise level of the area you're working in.
