Our services: Getting started with the Library: Using electronic resources

Using electronic resources

What are electronic resources?

Electronic resources (or eResources) are available in a digital format so you can access the information you need online. Our wide range of eResources include eBooks, eJournals and databases, and the majority of your essential reading will be available to you in an electronic format.

How do I access them?

There are a few ways to access our electronic resources:

  • use our online library catalogue, Discover - simply type in words from the title, a topic or an author to get started
  • in many cases, your online reading list will link directly to an electronic copy of the resources listed for each module of your course
  • your subject guides, created by your Faculty Librarian, provide access to some key electronic resources as well as wider reading for your subject

Access off-campus

When you are not on campus, a range of free tools are available to help you find, access and download the full text of electronic resources that we subscribe to online, wherever you are. These tools can help with simplifying the login process or allowing full access to content we subscribe to. For more information, see our guide on full text access tools
