Our Services: Requesting a Purchase: Liberate My Library

The Liberate My Library initiative empowers students and staff to help diversify Durham University’s library and museum collections. While we already hold a wide range of valuable resources, we’re committed to making our collections even more inclusive and representative of the communities we serve.

In partnership with Durham Students’ Union, this initiative invites recommendations for books, films, and other materials that reflect underrepresented voices and experiences. Our key areas of focus include race and ethnicity (BAME), LGBTQ+ identities, gender and identity, the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community, and disability. However, we welcome suggestions that celebrate all aspects of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.

This reading list features a selection of recent additions and popular titles chosen by Durham students and staff. It is updated regularly to highlight new acquisitions and the most frequently accessed resources. While not exhaustive, it offers a snapshot of the growing diversity within our collections.

In addition to this list we have a Liberate My Library Collection available via Libby App.

You can view a list of all titles recommended to us through this initiative on our Liberate My Library reading list.
