Requesting a purchase

Resource Purchase Requests

The Library welcomes resource purchase requests from all staff and students.

Acquisitions Team

Our dedicated acquisitions team, based within Collections at the Bill Bryson Library, handles book orders for the Bill Bryson Library, Palace Green, International Study Centre (Stockton), and supports College Libraries with purchasing.

Who Can Request?

All University members can request the library to purchase a book for the collection. Most requests can be made directly using the Purchase Request Form without needing permission from a staff member. Exceptions include resources with ongoing costs or one-off costs exceeding the purchasing threshold.

Types of Requests

  • New Items: Suggest new items for our collections for studies, research, personal development, or general interest.
  • MORE Books: Request additional copies of existing items.
  • Reading List Items: Staff must submit these requests via Talis Aspire.
  • Missing Books: Replace missing or damaged books.
  • Liberate My Library: Increase visibility and representation of BAME, LGBTQ+, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller, Disability, Gender, and Identity, as well as wider EDI areas.
  • Leisure and Wellbeing: Books to support personal wellbeing and others.
  • Personal Development: Books to support personal development at work and home.

The reasons for requesting a title can range from additional copies of core texts to general interest and fiction.

These pages provide a brief introduction on how to request a purchase, types of requests, routes for purchasing for staff and students, delivery times, and more.
