In addition to UKRI and Wellcome, a number of other external funders have their own open access policies. Details for many of these policies can be found on SHERPA Juliet or OpenDOAR and you should also look at requirements detailed in the terms and conditions of your grant.
For funders other than UKRI or Wellcome you may find that they will consider open access charges to be an allowable cost for their grant. If this is the case, the Open Access team can provide a more detailed breakdown of potential APC costs for specific journals, if required.
Remember also that costs for gold open access could also be covered for you though one of our transitional agreements.
Useful links to the ERC webpages on open Science and their open access policies can be found at:
Costs
You can allocate funds from your ERC grant to costs related to scientific publications and to storage and maintenance of research data generated by the ERC funded project.
If the grant that you are acknowledging has closed, the Library may still be able to fund gold open access for you through one of our transitional agreements.
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has an open access policy and details of this can be found at:
Costs
We hold a very small grant from BHF to cover eligible costs for Durham authors to publish gold open access.
BHF stipulates that:
If you are a Durham author acknowledging a BHF grant in your research article, contact openaccess.publishing@durham.ac.uk prior to submission to find out more about the funding available.
