Our services: Inter-Library Loans: How can I renew or cancel an item?

Current services available

All your requests have been moved to our new library software and inter-library loan books are now issued. Please bear with us while we work through the backlog of new requests which has built up. We will work through these as quickly as possible.

Our new system has a lot of new features which we think you will like, including courtesy notices reminding you when books are due for return, the ability to request renewals directly from your library record, and automatic article delivery, which means that articles will be sent to you the moment they arrive, no matter the time of day of night.

How can I renew or cancel an item?

Some libraries allow renewals of books borrowed through inter-library loan, but they are not automatic. You can request renewals via the Renew button in the My Loans section of your online library record. The button will appear in the week before the book is due for return.

You might want to apply to renew your inter-library loan as soon as you receive your courtesy notice. Books which are returned late will incur a fine of £1.00 per day and any books which are 28 days late will be considered lost and a fixed fee of £214.30 will be added to your library record.

If you want to apply for a renewal further than a week in advance, or if the book is not issued to your library record, then please email and will will arrange the renewal for you.

The yellow bookmark inside your inter-library loan will say if a renewal is likely to be possible.

If you need to cancel an inter-library loan request, please email and tell us which request you want to cancel.

Some requests can be cancelled immediately, but others could take a while. There are situations when a request cannot be cancelled, for example, if the book has already been posted to the Library.

If you have accidentally made a duplicate request, please let us know as soon as possible.
