Durham eTheses

Durham e-Theses

PhD students are required to deposit a PDF of their thesis in Durham e-Theses, the University's open access e-theses repository. Durham e-Theses contains:

  • the full-text of Durham University Higher Degree theses passed after 1 October 2009
  • an extensive collection of PhD, MPhil and Research Masters dissertations from 1899 onwards.

Theses in Durham e-Theses are available alongside other UK theses through the British Library's eThos service, the open access aggregator service Core.ac.uk and other services.

Submitting your thesis from off-campus

If you are having problems accessing the e-Theses submission system from off campus, the below instructions may help.

  • Open your web browser and connect to https://appsanywhere.durham.ac.uk/login
  • Login with your CIS username and password
  • Locate Google Chrome from the array of apps and click Launch Remote
  • Connect to https://etheses.dur.ac.uk/secure/cgi/users/home
  • Login with your CIS username and password
  • View the e-Theses Deposit Guide

Embargoes and restricting access to your thesis

Should you have reason to place an embargo on your thesis in Durham e-Theses, please download, complete and email the Restricting Access to your Thesis form to the Graduate School at pg.admin@durham.ac.uk. Your request must be authorised by both your primary Supervisor and Departmental Director of Postgraduate Research.

Open Access and PGR Publications

The Durham University Open Access policy not only applies to academic staff but also to Postgraduate Research students, if they publish in scholarly peer-reviewed publications.

Details of how to deposit in Durham Research Online (DRO) - Durham University's institutional open access repository - can be found on the Durham Research Online pages.  This will involve being able to access the Worktribe system - if you are unable to do so, please contact your department Senior Research Administrator.
