Our services: Borrow from us: Lost Items

From borrowing to returning, loan periods to details of charges for late returns - this guide has all the information you need about borrowing from us.

Lost items

An item is marked as lost when:

  • a user has lost an item and reported it to the Library
  • an item has become more than four weeks overdue. This might happen when the maximum auto-renewal period has been reached, or the item has been reserved by another user.

A lost Item charge of £30 (per item) will be applied for all lost items. If the item has been reserved, additional charges of £1 per day after its due date will also be applied. Please note that if you have charges of £10 or more you will be unable to borrow or renew items.

What if I return an item that is lost?

If you still have the item(s), you do not need to pay the lost item charges – please return them to the Library immediately and the lost item charges will be automatically removed.

What if I find the lost item after paying the charge?

Once paid, library charges are non-refundable, even if the item/s are found, and the item/s still need to be returned to the Library.

How do I pay my lost item charge?

You can pay all library charges online via your library account. Please contact the Library if you require any further support with paying your charges.

If you believe you have good reason not to pay your library charges (for example, medical reasons or extenuating personal circumstances), please submit a Library Charge Enquiry Form. More information and a link to the form can be found in our Library Charges guide.

Stolen items

If an item belonging to the Library has been stolen, please report it to the police, who will give you a crime log number. Email us with the following:

  • Details of the item/s
  • The crime log number
  • Any documentation you have received from the police

Any items affected and associated charges will be removed from your account.
