DULib Wellbeing: Film and television eResources

Free film and television eResources

You can access three on demand film and television services for free through your Library and Collections: BFI Player, Box of Broadcasts and Kanopy.

Find out more about each one and how to access your free subscription below.

BFI Player

BFI Player is a video on demand service from the British Film Institute streaming acclaimed, landmark and archive films. The focus is on British and European independent films, as well as international releases. It reflects the BFI’s wider cultural mission, complementing its seasonal programming of its UK venues, film distribution and DVD/Blu-ray publishing strands.

BFI player is available via our library catalogue, Discover - however, you will first need to create an individual account either via Discover or by going to https://player.bfi.org.uk/academic/subscribe (you might be asked to re-register your account each academic year)

Find out more about Durham's partnership with BFI and upcoming events on the BFI Partnership webpages.

Kanopy

Kanopy is one of the free video streaming services available to all Durham University students and staff through your library.

Find movies, documentaries, foreign films, classic cinema, independent films and educational videos that inspire, enrich and entertain - an ad-free experience that can be enjoyed on your TV, mobile phone, tablet and online.

It allows staff and students at Durham University (through our ERA licence) to stream and record programmes from over 65 free-to-air channels and to search an archive of over 2 million broadcasts.
