Reference books for Manuscript Studies

Durham University Library has an extensive collection of books on manuscript studies. These are mainly located at Palace Green Library in the Barker Research Library, forming part of the History of the Book collection. This is a browsable reference collection (not normally borrowable) particularly focussed on manuscript catalogues, palaeography, bibliography and library history. Further material is kept in the printed special collections and can be requested and consulted in the Searchroom at Palace Green Library.

Microfilms

There are two microfilm readers and one microfilm/fiche scanner (where copyright permits copies can be saved to USB stick) available at Palace Green Library.

The Durham Priory Microfilm Collection contains copies of all manuscripts and printed books known to have belonged to Durham Priory which survived but are no longer in Durham libraries. These can be viewed on the library catalogue under the shelfmark XM/Film Durham Priory.

There is a miscellaneous collection of microfilms acquired by the library, many of which are medieval manuscripts. These can be viewed on the library catalogue under the shelfmark XM/Film Misc.
