An overview of our libraries

The Business School is located across two sites - Waterside and Mill Hill Lane – with study spaces at both sites for Business School students only.

There are a variety of study spaces located within the Business School’s Waterside Building, including touch-down study spaces, a quiet study room, with a reference collection of core texts (Business School students only), and a terrace area. Many of the touchdown spaces are available to all students during core opening times (Mon-Fri 8am-6pm)

These spaces are unstaffed - for any library queries during your visit, you can contact us through our live chat service. For any support relating to the building please contact the local Reception desk.

The Waterside Building opening hours, from Monday 29 September 2025 onwards, are: 

  • 07:00 to 23:00 on weekdays  
  • 08:00 to 18:00 on weekends 

Access to the Waterside Building - use of campus cards:  

All Durham students are able to access the Waterside Building during core building hours of Monday-Friday 08:00 to 18:00. 

Students registered on Business School programmes are able to access the Waterside Building outside of core building hours, with their campus card, via the main entrance.

Waterside

The new Riverfront Bistro is located in the Waterside Building, serving a range of hot and cold food, drinks and snacks. There's also a Starbucks cafe available in the reception area. Visit the Cafe and Restaurant Outlet site for details of opening times.
 

Mill Hill Lane

Food and drinks are not permitted in the Business School Study Hub.  

Fusion Restaurant is located at Mill Hill Lane, offering a wide range of hot and cold food, drinks and snacks. Please see Fusion webpages for current opening times.

Waterside

The new Waterside Building is located on Freeman's Place, opposite Durham Sixth Form College and the leisure centre, with the Raddison Hotel on the other side of the river. The PennyFerry footbridge provides access across the river.
 

Mill Hill Lane

Located in the Business School building on Mill Hill Lane, past the Oriental Museum, Van Mildert College and St. Aidan's College.

Use the postcode DH1 3LB if using a SatNav or GPS.  

Waterside

There is no visitor car parking available. There is a public car park a short distance from the building (charges apply).

Please note, there is no visitor car parking, except for disabled parking bays near the entrance. There are bike racks available.

To access the building, swipe your Campus Card at the entrance. Study spaces are spread across all floors of the building, accessible via lift or stairs.


Mill Hill Lane

To access the Business School Study Hub, swipe your Campus Card at the entrance. The Hub is on the ground floor of the Business School, accessible via a lift or stairs.
